Where do these fabrics come from,

Both Bamboo textiles and MicroModal textiles are made by Lenzing AG from Austria. Tencel Lyocell MicroModal fibers are extracted from beech wood, while bamboo comes from the bamboo grass variety. Both materials are grown in nurseries.

How is bamboo and beech wood made into textiles,

Bamboo,

Bamboo textiles are extracted chemically from bamboo. Chemicals are used that are not so good for the environment. The strong cellulose (the building blocks of plants and trees) from bamboo is broken down. The bamboo is completely dissolved into a gel-like substance after which it is spun into yarn. The substance that results from this is viscose cellulose.

Beech tree,

The Tencel Lyocell MicroModal® production process is ecological. The beech wood that is used comes from sustainable beech tree nurseries with the FSC quality mark. The cellulose fiber is completely biodegradable. MicroModal's production process is more environmentally friendly than that of bamboo, due to the saving of water and energy and the recovery of the resources used during the making of the fibers. The recovery is even 99.6%, waste water is released, but this is harmless for the environment. MicroModal® therefore also has the EU Ecolabel.

Micromodal Textile,

Tencel Lyocell MicroModal is a natural synthetic fiber and that of course sounds very double, natural and artificial? And yet it is so. Natural synthetic fibers are made from natural raw materials. The natural material of the beech tree is completely broken down into a gel-like substance. New fibers are made from this gel and these fibers are woven into textile again, which costs less energy than processing natural fibers such as cotton or bamboo. Synthetic fibers are also often easier to dye and color more solid. MicroModal underwear is made of even finer and stronger fibers than Modal, making the fabric even lighter and softer than Modal and bamboo underwear. MicroModal is a super fine fabric with all the characteristics of Modal, but with an even more pleasant feel.

Washing and ironing of Bamboo and MicroModal,

Women's and men's underwear, and other bamboo and micromodal clothing can be washed a little colder. The antibacterial properties of these fabrics ensure that the fabrics quickly become fresh and clean, even at 30 degrees. The same goes for ironing and drying the bamboo and micro modal clothing. Bamboo and micromodal are crease-resistant, form-retaining, anti-static, drying or ironing is actually not even necessary.

Longevity underwear,

It may sound strange, but underwear also has an expiration date. At the Good Housekeeping Institute, Dr. Beckmann believes that underpants do have an expiration date.

Bacteria,

Even if your underwear looks so good after wearing it for a year, it is still better to replace it. After a while, it appears that bacteria remain in here, even if you wash your underpants so thoroughly! The bacteria that can remain behind can cause nasty infections and inflammation, cystitis is one of them. Even if you've just washed your underwear, underwear can contain 10,000 bacteria. To prevent the risk of infections from becoming too great, it is therefore really good to replace your underpants after a year.
